What to do with your moving boxes after your move

Friday, November 27th, 2009

So you’ve made your move and are settled into your new home. Now what do you do with all of those moving boxes? Unless you are planning on moving again sometime soon, here are a few ideas on what to do with your moving boxes.

Sell Your Boxes

How did you get your moving boxes? You probably spent some time searching for moving boxes or like most people, bought them from a moving company. Those slightly worn moving boxes you now have can be sold to other people who are moving. Since your moving boxes are used, you will be selling them at a lower price then you probably paid for them. However, you will be able to get rid of all your unwanted moving boxes and make a little cash at the same time. Try posting an ad on Craigslist or in your local newspaper to get started.

Use Them As Storage

You know all those things you store in your attic or basement? Why not place them into moving boxes? Things like books, seasonal clothes, holiday decorations and the like can be stored for safekeeping in your moving boxes. Just make sure to reinforce each moving boxes and, if breakables are inside, to sufficiently pad it with packing material.

Create Something

Have children? Why not let them get creative with your left over moving boxes. With a little imagination they could create just about anything. Cut open the moving boxes  to create an interconnecting tunnel. Put different shaped moving boxes together to create a robot. The ideas go on and on. All they will need is crayons, markers, stickers, tape and some parental supervision if scissors are involved. The result is hours of entertainment in their new home.

Give Them Away

The easiest and perhaps most rewarding way of getting rid of your moving boxes is giving them away. Someone in your new neighborhood is bound to be moving and what a great way to meet some of your new neighbors. Another idea? Perhaps your local food bank or thrift store may need them for storage purposes.
