Packing up your holiday decorations

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

Your Holiday decorations may only make an appearance once a year but it is important to keep them safe and secure when they are packed away in your basement or attic. Here are a few tips to keep your Holiday decorations stored properly and in an organized manner.

Label It

To keep your Holiday decorations from being lost make sure to clearly label each box. If Holiday is too broad, perhaps label the contents that are inside the box such as ornaments or wreaths.

Keep Like Items Together

In order to keep things from getting lost or completely unorganized, make sure to keep like items together. This also will make it convenient when you are trying to find specific items. For example, lights that go on the outside of your house could go in one box while lights that go on a tree could go in a box with ornaments.

What Do You Need First?

If there are certain items you need during the holiday season first, such as Holiday cards or cookie cutters, keep these in a box together. This way you are not scrambling around to find what you need from multiple boxes.

Storing Ornaments and Decorations

Many ornaments and decorations are breakable so be sure to pack them carefully. Home goods stores often carry specialized ornament holders now that keep each ornament in an individual compartment for safekeeping. For a less expensive option, why not use plastic cups to keep each ornament in. You can place each cup in a box or crate that is filled with bubble wrap or tissue to keep your holiday ornaments safe. Another good idea is to use clear plastic tubs for your holiday decoration storage. This way you can see what is inside each box. They also can last longer then cardboard boxes.
