Storage

Let’s face it – your belongings and items have increased in number during the last ten years, but your house remains the same. Ever feel like it’s getting a little too crowded? Or, maybe you have to move and temporarily you have nowhere to put all your belongings. It’s high time you considered storage facilities as an answer for your lack of space.

Storage has been a widely-used solution by homeowners and even office managers as a means to optimize the space of their household, garage and office cubicles. And, if you are moving, storage facilities can be just the ticket to getting adequate space and protection for your possessions.

The concept of storage – or safely stacking, organizing and keeping personal possessions, from small items, such as jewelry to unwieldy items, such as furniture – is not a new concept. The idea of storing items – whether for the purpose of secrecy or housekeeping has been present since man developed the consciousness for organization.

Convenience and space optimization have always been a focus, especially in the twentieth century. This can be seen in the invention of everything from space-saving gadgets to compact cars. In modern society, we have trouble throwing things away. Some people are avid recyclers but others keep their possessions locked up in boxes and cabinets. This has led to a boom in the storage industry – especially in mini-storage and self-storage units.

Storage spaces and storage boxes can keep your precious items, important office documents and even the old and used household furniture out of the way and safe from harm. Although you may have a few small items that can simply be stored in a box, chances are you will need a much larger area to store many moving boxes or other large items. If this is the case, especially if you are moving, you may want to explore mini-storage and self-storage options.

Self Storage

If you are moving or just plain running out of space, self storage might well be the way for you to go. Self-storage facilities rent almost any unit so you can obtain just the amount of space you need. Once you see how uncluttered your home can be by storing just a few unused items, you will be sold on the value of self storage.

Self-storage facilities have been the preferred choice for moving storage as well, because they offer a large amount of space plus lots of privacy and accessibility. Most self-storage facilities are in warehouses and buildings that are open 24 hours a day, giving people full access to their belongings whenever they feel like retrieving them. You can store just about anything in a self-storage unit, except hazardous or toxic chemicals which may be a potential cause for warehouse damage or a fire.

Mini Storage

Mini-storage facilities are usually located in public areas, such as train stations, airports, or bus stations. They are similar to self-storage facilities; however, they may offer less accessibility and security. They are relatively cheaper than most self-storage facilities because they are usually in the form of lockers and/or cabinets. They are an ideal choice if you have only a few tiny items to store.

Amenities to expect from self-storage facilities

Space is not the only thing to look for when choosing a self-storage facility. Other considerations are whether or not you will have 24/7 access to your items and the length of the contract period. Are you going to be locked into a certain amount of time or can you end the rental agreement whenever you wish? You will also want to find out what kind of insurance the storage facility offers, if any.

Some facilities offer you the convenience of your own key card for accessibility. Most contracts are flexible--they can be monthly, for an agreed upon period of time or open-ended, meaning you can remove your possessions and end the contract whenever you wish.

In most cases, you will have to have your own insurance to cover damage or loss to the items you place in storage. Some storage facilities may offer insurance against items damaged by the staff or condition of the building, but when it comes to fire or theft, you might be on your own. Always find out exactly what the insurance coverage will be before signing the contract.

Where to find the right storage for you

Convenience has been a major factor in the building of storage facilities. That’s why whether you choose mini-storage or self-storage units, you are apt to be able to find just what you need close to home.

If you are planning to rent storage space, check out the directory of storage providers right here on our website. If you have a choice of several local storage facilities near you, be sure to compare the pluses and minuses of one against another. Don’t forget to look for customer ratings and feedback. Good companies will most likely have 4 or 5 out of 5 stars and positive comments from customers who were pleased with their service.

And remember, here on MovinGood, you have the opportunity to rate the businesses you choose by leaving appropriate feedback. There’s no hype because only the consumers who actually used a moving business found on this site can leave feedback. That keeps all the feedback honest because it is based on your own experiences with the moving companies.
